It was a busy morning here at my feeding station! I sighted chickadees, a tiny, bashful goldfinch, red-bellied and downy woodpeckers, white-breasted nuthatch, cardinals, a puffy white-throat, and of course the usual mobs of house finches. At this time of year, having a large feeder comes in really handy, especially when it’s freezing, windy, and snowing outside! I haven’t had to refill my feeders for several days. I try to use blends that attract most of the regional bird species; the one I have in my main feeder right now contains black-oilers, safflower, peanuts, sunflower hearts, and striped sunflower. As already attested to, the birds go nuts for the stuff!
