SUMMARY:Nature Journaling EcoFamily Program at Elmwood Park Zoo
DESCRIPTION:Join local artist Jack Hobe  for an introduction to nature journaling! This is a method used by real-life scientists and naturalists to collect data and do their work in the field\, but it is also a great way for anyone to make a connection with our natural world. This is a practice that anybody can participate in\, regardless of their artistic ability. Guests will learn how to tap into their creativity by incorporating diagrams\, maps\, notations\, and many other disciplines into their journaling\, using materials provided by the zoo! This program is designed for families and is suitable for all ages! \n\n\n\nRegistration is Required. Registration is $5 per individual or group of up to 4 people. DESCRIPTION:Learn how to draw the birds in your backyard in this art workshop taught by naturalist and wildlife illustrator Jack Hobe! Participants will learn tricks for capturing birds like crows\, jays and magpies (corvids) on paper before they fly away\, using easy-to-learn gesture sketching techniques. Jack will also walk through pointers on how to simplify birds’ feathers\, wings\, tails and feet. Backyard birds can be challenging and feisty subjects to draw\, but Jack’s passion for birding and art will help you to demystify feather patterns\, movements\, form and behavior. No art or drawing experience required—beginners and advanced artists alike will learn something new! Raptors are majestic and fierce both in flight and while perched\, and there are lots of useful techniques to capture them in both behaviors.
