Below is a PDF download of an introductory nature journaling worksheet I designed for nature journal educators. If you are a nature journal educator or parent looking for a more structured nature journal pages for kids or first-time journalers to use, this worksheet is your friend. It is a simplified design for a journal page with boxes for each step of journaling- I Notice, I Wonder, and It Reminds Me Of. For people who have not journaled before, the sight of a totally blank page can be daunting- providing a little structure can help alleviate “blank page freeze” and help somebody jump into the process.

Ideally, kids will start with I Notice, writing, drawing and quantifying their observations in the center box. They will then move on to the I Wonder section, asking questions about their object. Finally, they can write some It Reminds Me Of’s in the third box. After your audience uses this sheet a few times, you can transition to blank pages in sketchbooks or composition books. These sheets are designed to be used on a large clipboard.
