I created this series to spotlight 6 of the coolest species of freshwater fish living in the Northeastern region of the U.S:
- Pumpkinseed – a small sunfish sporting bright orange and blue hues
- Channel Catfish – the most abundant and popular catfish species; forages along lakebeds for prey using sensitive whiskers rather than sight
- Rainbow Trout – a well-loved sport fish native to the Pacific but introduced to the Great Lakes region
- American Eel – yes, it’s a fish! Adults live in fresh water East of the Mississippi but swim out to sea to spawn eggs
- Largemouth Bass – a voracious predator and also part of the sunfish family; a vigorous fighter on the line
- Tiger Muskellunge – a hybrid between the Muskellunge and Northern Pike. It is a ferocious ambush predator in lake ecosystems and very hard to catch
